Ladies and gentlemen, members of Southport Sailing Club,
Thank you all for joining us for this 66th Annual General Meeting.
To begin, I want to acknowledge the challenges we’ve faced this season. We have seen a very disappointing number of sailors on the water, and attendance at several of our events has been lower than we hoped. Participation is the lifeblood of our club, and it is something we must continue to work on together.
However, it’s equally important to recognise the many positives. A number of our sailors have been competing at other venues—and doing so very successfully. Their achievements are a real credit both to themselves and to Southport Sailing Club, and they remind us of the talent we have within our community.
We also enjoyed a fantastic 12-hour Junior race this year. The turnout, the atmosphere, and especially the amount of help and support we received was exceptional. My thanks go to everyone who contributed—these events simply wouldn’t happen without you. We are looking forward to next year race on the 27th June .
As we look ahead, we must also focus on the 24-hour race. This event is one of our biggest and most important, not only for bringing our community together but also as a vital source of revenue for the club. To keep it strong, we will need more volunteers and more hands on deck. Your support genuinely makes the difference.
Another highlight was our Junior training programme, which saw excellent engagement and gave us a glimpse of what a vibrant, active season at Southport can look like.
Looking forward, I remain optimistic. With continued commitment, increased involvement, and the enthusiasm we know our members have, I believe we can turn the tide and see a busier, more successful year ahead.
