Racing Returns to SSC
The management committee are pleased to announce club racing will be returning from Sunday (4/4/21) with a few amendments made to ensure recent changes to government guidelines and resultant RYA guidance can be implemented successfully.
The current plan is to race every other Sunday (weather permitting of course) as per normal diary schedules. Evening racing will restart each Wednesday and Friday, and the Wednesday afternoon group will start up again on 14th April. Keep an eye out for information on the website and SSC Facebook page ahead of each weekend.
TIMEKEEPING
It is strongly recommended that all sailors bring a watch as part of the essential kit to bring to the lake so timings for racing can still be possible even if race ODs may not be available that day.
If you have noticed you are listed for a race officer duty in the coming weeks but may not be returning to racing just yet, if you could contact a member of management committee to let us know this it would be a great help.
START SEQUENCE
The starting sequence has been adjusted creating staggered fleet starts, as follows:
• 3 minutes remaining (preparatory signal)
• 2 minutes remaining – slow fleet (PY 1200-1380, fusion mirror)
• 1 minute remaining – handicap fleet (PY 1199-1100, streaker enterprise GP14)
• GO – Laser/fast fleet (full rig radial phantom)
RACE MARKERS & COURSES
Starts will always commence outside the clubhouse using the start-finish line. Individual buoys will be carried out by selected sailors after the race course has been decided onshore and that sailor will collect the SAME buoy at the end of racing
RACE SERIES
At this point an accurate number of races for qualification of this series cannot be calculated just yet, however the aim will be to host 3 races each Sunday. The main aim for this series is to get people back on the water and gives everyone chance to begin safely socialising again..
FACILITIES
Unfortunately, the clubhouse is still closed besides access to toilets and no safety boat can be used therefore the current advice for sailing in no more than Force 4 (Force 3 for juniors and vulnerable sailors) still remains.
